About Lucy

Lucy is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a deep passion for supporting individuals, couples, and families navigating life’s challenges. She takes an integrative, evidence-based approach, drawing on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness while honouring each client’s values and lived experiences. Her goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space that fosters self-understanding, resilience, and lasting emotional well-being.

Lucy’s inspiration to become a therapist stems from witnessing the impact that mental health struggles can have on individuals and families. She has always listened with empathy and sought to understand others’ experiences, turning those qualities into a source of healing and growth. She finds great purpose in work that fosters personal well-being, resilience, and self-discovery.

Experience & Background

With over twenty years of experience in human services across public and private sectors—including schools, community outreach, prison settings, and Veterans affairs—Lucy brings a trauma-informed, client-centered, and collaborative approach to therapy. She provides a safe and compassionate environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore their healing journey and achieve personal growth.

As a second-generation Japanese Canadian, Lucy has a strong awareness of cultural identity and the importance of cultural competency in therapy. This perspective allows her to tailor interventions to meet the unique needs of clients from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Therapeutic Approach

Lucy takes an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based practices while honouring each client’s personal values and lived experiences. She personalizes therapy by adopting a client-centered and collaborative approach, tailoring treatment plans to each person’s unique experiences, needs, goals, and cultural context.

Philosophy & Values

Lucy strongly believes that each individual has the capacity for growth, resilience, and positive change. She views subjective experiences, values, and cultural background as fundamental to therapy. Trauma-informed care, compassion, and safety are critical components of her work.

To Lucy, healing is unique to each individual—a deeply personal, ongoing journey of growth and development.

Lucy enjoys witnessing how genuine human connection serves as the foundation for healing and meaningful therapeutic outcomes. She’s most passionate about witnessing client growth and transformation, helping clients uncover their strengths and build resilience as they navigate life’s challenges.

Beyond therapy

Outside of therapy, Lucy finds joy in spending time with family, taking short road trips, and hiking in the mountains. Being in nature unplugged helps her recharge and stay grounded.

What to expect

During the first session, clients can expect a discussion about confidentiality, completion of intake questions, and exploration of their reasons for seeking therapy. This session establishes a foundation for the therapeutic relationship and provides a safe, supportive environment where clients are encouraged to share openly, ask questions, and begin identifying their goals.

Lucy’s style is gentle, supportive, and mixed mindfully with humour while staying goal-oriented.

Lucy hopes clients feel seen, heard, and understood when working with her. She wants them to feel safe and supported in exploring their experiences, and empowered to make positive changes. Clients typically leave sessions with a sense of clarity, resilience, and confidence in their ability to navigate life’s challenges.
