About Melissa

Melissa is an Alberta-based Registered Social Worker (RSW), counsellor, and educator who works with individuals and families navigating experiences related to grief, illness, stress, and life transitions. She offers a collaborative, client-centred counselling environment informed by holistic practices that honour the connection between mind, body, and spirit.

Melissa is drawn to people’s stories and the moments that shape them. Her work emphasizes compassion, presence, and genuine connection—especially during difficult seasons when clients may be navigating uncertainty, change, or loss

Therapeutic Approach

Melissa’s approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in compassion. She works with clients to explore their experiences at a pace that feels appropriate, supporting reflection and understanding within the counselling process.

Her counselling is shaped collaboratively based on each client’s goals, preferences, and context, and may include evidence-informed strategies when these are a fit for the work.

Philosophy & Values

Melissa’s work is guided by collaboration, empathy, and respect for each client’s unique story. She values a holistic perspective that integrates emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing, and approaches counselling as a process of fostering understanding and balance.

To Melissa, counselling is not about erasing pain, but about making space for awareness and compassion in the midst of life’s challenges. She values the human connection that can develop in counselling and aims to offer an environment where clients feel heard and supported.

What to expect

In the first session, Melissa focuses on getting to know each client’s story and what has brought them to counselling. She asks about experiences, challenges, and goals, and offers space to ask questions and discuss how she works. This first session is also an opportunity to consider whether her counselling approach feels like a good fit.

Ongoing sessions are collaborative and paced according to client needs, with regular opportunities to reflect on what feels helpful and adjust the focus over time.

Beyond therapy

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys horseback riding, traveling, camping, reading, and spending time with family and friends. These activities help her stay grounded and bring presence, curiosity, and warmth to her counselling work.
